Sheikh Saleh Al-Luhaydan
As for a child, then the child that has not reached the age of Takleef (age when Islamic rules become binding) has nothing upon him. However, what is befitting for the parents, teachers, and anyone who supervises the youth is to acquaint them with honesty. For indeed, if the youth is accustomed to honesty and treads upon it, he will endear honesty and love it. And the authentic Hadith is well-known, where the Prophet ﷺ says: ((Beware of lying! Indeed lying leads to wickedness, and wickedness leads to the Hellfire. Indeed a man will lie, and make lies his objective until he is written as a liar before Allah)) [Bukhari and Muslim] So be extremely cautious from lying!
Also, when the Prophet ﷺ saw a woman saying to her son: “Come and I will give you (something)!”
He ﷺ said: “What were you to give to him?” She said: “Dates:” He ﷺ said: “Indeed, if you hadn’t given him, it would be written against you as a lie.” Likewise, it is reported one of the Imams of the Salaf, went to narrate from a Sheikh from the scholars, so he saw that Sheikh calling his (riding) animal as if there was something in his hand, and there was nothing in his hand. So the student left off seeking knowledge from that scholar. And he said: “Whosoever permits himself to lie to a mule, I fear he will permit himself to lie to me.”
And Allah’s aid is sought
