Sheikh Ibn Baz
The one who is praying is in (either of) two situations. The first of them: He has placed a sutrah. It is not permissible for anyone to pass between him and the sutrah. The second is that he hasn't placed a sutrah. The best saying regarding this is that he estimates three cubits from his foot. If (the distance) is more than three cubits, then there is no harm in passing. And the proof given for this is that when the Prophet ﷺ prayed in the kaabah, he placed a distance of three cubits between himself and the wall; Three cubits between his foot and the wall. They say: This indicates that the sutrah can be at this distance. All of this applies to the one who is praying alone. As for the the one who is praying behind the Imam, nothing (that passes before him) breaks his prayer. The Imam is his sutrah. So, the one who follows the Imam is not in need of a sutrah. His prayer is not broken even if a woman, donkey, dog, or anything else passes in front of him.
