What is the Ruling on Wearing Clothes with Pictures of Animate Beings?

Clothes that have images of animate beings with their heads on are haram (forbidden), as stipulated by the Shafi’is, Hanbalis and a group of the Hanafis. And this (view) was chosen by a group of scholars, including our Sheikh Ibn Baz and our Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen, may Allah Almighty have mercy on them. This is because images of animate beings make the house unpleasant and prevent the angels from entering the house. And the believer needs angels to enter his house. It was reported on the authority of Zaid bin Khalid Al-Juhaniyy, may Allah be pleased with him, that he said that Abu Talha narrated to him, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “The angels do not enter a house in which there is an image/picture.” The Hadith is agreed upon (by Bukhari and Muslim). And it was reported on the authority of our mother ‘A’isha, the mother of the believers, may Allah be pleased with her, that she bought a Numruqah (pillow) in which there were pictures, and when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw it, he stood at the door and he did not enter, and anger appeared on his face. So, our mother ‘A’isha, may Allah be pleased with her, recognized that on his face, so she said: “O Messenger of Allah, I repent to Allah and to His Messenger, what did I do wrong?” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “What is the matter with this pillow?” She said: “I bought it for you to sit on and use it as a cushion.” And 'Al-Namariq' are the pillows that are spread to sit on or used as cushions. So, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Indeed, the makers of these images will be punished on the Day of Resurrection, and it will be said to them, ‘Give life to what you created.’” He, peace be upon him, also said: “The house in which there is an image, the angels do not enter it.” The Hadith is agreed upon (by Bukhari and Muslim). So, this indicates that it is not permissible to wear clothes that have pictures on them, unless they are humiliated/degraded (such as socks or underclothes).
