In the Name of Allah, Ar-Rahman (the Merciful), Ar-Raheem (the Mercy giving), All praise and thanks be to Allah, May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammed. We put this question to our eminent sheikh, Sheikh Saleh Al-Fawzan, may Allah protect him. When a person dies, some families send messages asking for donations, A waqf (endowment) is left for him by building a Mosque or digging wells. They may ask for a specific amount of money, but not always, so what is your opinion, may Allah preserve you?

In the Name of Allah, Ar-Rahman (the Merciful), Ar-Raheem (the Mercy giving), All praise and thanks be to Allah, and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah, the members of his family, and his companions. This act is a Bid’ah (innovation within religion) and is not permissible. And perhaps the person being asked will feel embarrassed and make a donation, even though he doesn't want to. However, he is forced to agree, so this action is not permissible, and Allah knows best.
