Sheikh Ibn Al-Uthaymeen
Some people might say that they have repented from dealing with Riba (interest), but – Allah’s refuge is sought– they insist on doing it.
He deals with Riba directly and through deception.
And we have frequently come across (the fact) that the one who deals with Riba through deception is more sinful and his crime is greater than the one who deals with it directly.
(That’s because) the one who deals with Riba by deception has committed a crime against himself twice: once for falling into Riba and second for trying to deceive Allah the Almighty; As if Allah the Exalted doesn’t know!
And this is found in many people these days.
Those who deal with Riba directly, their affair is clear.
However, there are those who deal with Riba by treachery and deception.
You find that he has wealth/commodity for many years in a shop, so he, the rich person, comes leading a poor person to his destruction (because of Riba), and Allah’s refuge is sought.
So, he comes to the owner of the shop who has this commodity, and he pretends to sell it to the poor person on credit (i.e., as a debt).
All of them know that this is not a real sale, because this indebted buyer will not look at the money or pay attention to it.
In fact, if they were bags of sand sold to him as sugar, he would have taken them.
It doesn’t matter to him, what matters to him is to fulfill his need.
So, he sells it to him for ten thousand over a period of a year and leaves without moving it (i.e., the commodity) from its place.
Then, the person in debt sells it (back) to the owner of the shop for nine thousand, for example.
So this poor person is destroyed from two directions; from the creditor and from the owner of the shop.
Then they say that this is correct, rather they call it correction.
They say, “Come I will correct for you such and such.”, subhanAllah (Allah is free from all imperfection)! This is correcting? This is polluting with sins and Allah’s refuge is sought.
