The 10 of Dhul Hijjah; the Prophet ﷺ said about them: “There are no days during which the righteous actions are more beloved to Allah than these ten days (i.e., the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah).” They said: “Not even Jihad in the Cause of Allah?” He (ﷺ) replied, “Not even Jihad in the Cause of Allah, except in case one goes forth with his life and his property and does not return with either of it.” Based on this noble Hadith, it is befitting for us to strive hard in performing righteous actions in these 10 days; fasting, dhikr (remembrance), reading Qur’an, a lot of Salat (prayer), charity, being good to people and other than that from deeds that bring us closer to Allah, the Blessed and Exalted. As the righteous deeds in these 10 days are better than the righteous deeds in the last 10 of Ramadan. Because the Prophet ﷺ made a general statement: "There are no days during which the righteous actions are more beloved to Allah than these ten days (i.e., the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah)." And it is befitting for the students of knowledge to spread awareness among people regarding the virtues of these 10 days, because they are heedless of them and ignorant of their virtues. So they need reminders, awareness and knowledge. And the most emphasized day for fasting is the fasting of the Day of ‘Arafah. The Prophet ﷺ was asked about the fasting of the Day of ‘Arafah and he said: “I hope Allah will expiate by that [the sins] of the year before it and the year after it.”
