Question: Can there be, in the heart of the believer, fear from Allah (the Exalted) alongside assurance and comfort, as mentioned in the ayah: ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَتَطْمَئِنُّ قُلُوبُهُم بِذِكْرِ ٱللَّهِ ۗ أَلَا بِذِكْرِ ٱللَّهِ تَطْمَئِنُّ ٱلْقُلُوبُ "verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest" (Ar-Ra'd:28)? Sheikh: Yes. First the hearts fear then are assured at the end. For example, if they hear about the verses of warning and punishment, their hearts fear Then if they hear the verses of paradise and mercy, they become hopeful and their hearts find comfort. So, first when they hear the warnings, they fear. Second if they hear the verses of mercy and rewards, they find comfort. So, they combined (i.e., in their hearts) between fear and hope.
