All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammed, his companions, and his family. Indeed, making isteeda’ when a person leaves his family to go to work, leaves his work to go to his business, or leaves his friend without traveling is not the way of the Salaf (pious predecessors). (Muslim) scholars, may Allah have mercy on them, made chapters (i.e., in their books) based on the saying of Prophet Muhammed, peace be upon him: “I leave your religion, safety, and the last of your deeds in the care of Allah." (Dua in arabic: أَسْتَـوْدِعُ اللَّهَ ديـنَكَ وَأَمانَتَـكَ وَخَـواتيـمَ عَمَـلِك) And the saying of a person who is traveling to his family: “I leave you in the trust of Allah, whose trust is never misplaced.” (Dua in arabic:أَسْتَـوْدِعُكُـمُ اللَّهَ الَّذي لا تَضـيعُ وَدائِعُـه) However, saying so while being at home (i.e., not traveling) and going from home to work, work to home, home to malls, and from malls to friends and diwaniyas (places for gatherings)… This is a novel Bid’ah (innovation within religion), and there is nothing reported on behalf of the Prophet, peace be upon him, or his companions concerning that. However, the story which includes that whosoever leaves anything in the trust of Allah, it will never be lost. This (i.e., meaning) is only for travelers if (the Hadith) is authentic. And Allah the Exalted knows best.
