And due to this, The People of Knowledge say: "Indeed, there is a difference between [seeking] narrations and seeking knowledge [i.e., from the People of Innovation]." That's because some students of knowledge come and say: “Al-Bukhari narrated from some of the People of Innovation, and so-and-so narrated from some of the Khawarij, and so-and-so.... So then, how can you restrict us and say 'Do not sit with the People of Innovation and do not seek knowledge from them?'" We say: The narrations are trusted and safe from mistakes if the narrator is safe from lying. He will transmit to us the speech of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he won't add to it. As for knowledge, then no, he will pass on to us the meanings of knowledge, and this cannot be trusted. And there is no doubt that every person of innovation that teaches knowledge, his innovation will affect his knowledge, even (in) arabic grammar! Even with Arabic Grammar, if the one who is teaching it is a person of innovation, he will include his innovation in Arabic Grammar! And for that reason, I mentioned to you that Ibn Al-Jinni - and he is from the major scholars of language, and he is a Mu’tazilite- in all of the examples mentioned in his book: ‘Al-Khasais’, he mentions examples that serve the Aqidah of the Mu’tazilah. May Allah grant us and all of you tawfeeq.
