Sheikh Ibn Al-Uthaymeen
For example a man who used to use money to disobey Allah - and Allah’s refuge is sought - he buys intoxicants, travels to countries, commits Zina (fornication) - Allah’s refuge is sought - and gets drunk.
So, he became poor and said, “O Allah I’ve repented to You” and he is lying. He says, “I’ve repented to you”, however his intention is that if things returned to how they were, he would do his previous acts.
So, this is a repentance of one who is incapable (of committing sins). Have you now repented or not repented?!
You’re not able, because there are some people who become poor and then say, “I have abandoned the Dunya (worldly-life).” But, in his heart he tells himself that if he returns to what he has lost, he will return to sinning again.
So, this repentance is not accepted, because it is a repentance of one who is incapable (of committing sins), and the repentance of the one who is incapable does not benefit him.
