Sheikh Ibn Al-Uthaymeen
If the sin that you have committed is with a person, (for example) by hitting him and so on, then go to him and allow him to hit you as you have hit him. If it was on the back, (then he hits you) on the back, if it was on the head, (then he hits you) on the head, in any place that you hit him, then let him take revenge on you, this is because of Allah the Exalted’s saying: “And the retribution for an evil act is an evil one like it.” [al-Shura: 40] And because of His the Exalted’s saying: “Then whoever transgresses the prohibition against you, you transgress likewise against him.” [al-Baqarah: 194] This is two. And if it was by a word, an insult by a word, such as if you insulted him in front of the people, rebuked him and humiliated him, then you must go to him and ask him to pardon you. With what you and him agree on. Even if he says, “I won’t let you except by taking such and such amount of dirhams (money)”, then give him.
