Sheikh Ibn Al-Uthaymeen
Question: A man saw in his dream our leader Muhammad ﷺ and said to him: “Supplicate for me O Messenger of Allah.” Is this a real or imaginary vision? Please benefit, may Allah bless you. Sheikh Ibn al-Uthaymeen: Seeing the Prophet ﷺ is real, for Satan does not imitate him. But the descriptions of the person seen must be compared to what the hadiths came with regarding the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in terms of his descriptions ﷺ. If the descriptions match the descriptions of the Prophet ﷺ then it is real. But if the descriptions differ, then the person he saw is not the Prophet ﷺ. This issue is often experienced by some people, they see an image that they believe is the Prophet ﷺ, or they are told that he is the Prophet ﷺ. But if they describe what they saw, then the image’s descriptions do not match the descriptions of the Prophet ﷺ, and thus it becomes clear that what they saw is not true. In any case, he must know that the descriptions of what he saw in a dream match the descriptions of the Prophet ﷺ. If they do not match, then what he saw is not the Prophet ﷺ.
