Sheikh Ibn Baz
As for the sacred months, they are Rajab, Dhul Qadah, Dhul Hijjah and Muharram. These are the sacred months, three are consecutive, Dhul Qadah, Dhul Hijjah and Muharram.
The one we are in is the month of Allah, Muharram. The fourth is separate, between Jumada and Shaban which is Rajab.
The Arabs used to stay away from fighting, be wary of it, and journey from one land to another during these months.
Allah explained its greatness and significance by His saying:
{Verily, the number of months with Allah is twelve months (in a year), so was it ordained by Allah on the Day when He created the heavens and the earth; of them four are Sacred, That is the right religion, so wrong not yourselves therein}
[Surah At-Tawbah:36]
Meaning: (Do not wrong yourselves) by sins, evils, and obedience to Shaytan, not by hunting, but by sins and violations.
As for hunting, it is permissible in Rajab, Dhul Qadah, Dhul Hijjah or Muharram. Hunting is permissible if you are not in Ihram (performing hajj) or in the land of haram (Mecca and Madinah).
