Sheikh Ibn Baz
Hudhaifah (May Allah be pleased with him) said: "Any act of worship which was not done by the companions of Muhammad ﷺ, do not do it." For indeed, the first (generations) did not leave off anything for the later.
That's because the Sahabah (the companions) clarified/explained and asked their Prophet ﷺ about everything. So it is obligatory upon you to follow their example and adopt their methodology.
When Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (May Allah be pleased with him) saw people sitting in circles in the Masjid and in each circle there was a person saying, "Do Tasbih like this and count like this," i.e., with stones. He (Ibn Mas'ud) said: "You are upon a religion that is more guided than the religion of Muhammad ﷺ? Or you are opening a door of misguidance? Count your sins, For I guarantee that nothing from your good deeds will go to waste.
This is from Bida' (innovations) that they split into sects (whilst) each one (of them) saying: do this, do that.
Rather, the advice that is obligatory is (with) what Allah and His Messenger ﷺ said.
